Jan Desper is proud to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of a 501(c)3, non profit organization whose primary mission was to provide a forum and promote the development and maintenance of optimal mental health programs and services for African Americans and other people of color for a second time. With a high level of independence and autonomy, Jan successfully multi-tasked in an environment with lofty goals by maximizing the fiscal and human resources available; provided opportunities for professional development in staff and coaching of the same; managed and recruited Board members; created a framework for growth and support of a sound infrastructure that remains well known and respected; established the means, through fundraising and grant-writing, to increase restricted and un-restricted dollars by 500%; secured the Who’s Who of academia and research as annual conference keynote speakers and workshop presenters; served as the organization’s official liaison to mental health consumers, providers and advocates; participated on a number of community coalitions in the form of providing technical assistance and mental health resources identification; submitted a wide range of proposals and grant reports; managed operating and grant budgets; oversaw the successful identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewarding of corporate, foundation, and government funders; spoke publicly and facilitated appearances as “the expert” via the print media, radio, cable and network television, forums, and other venues; and provided skilled facilitation in conference and event planning and coordination.
